1. Introduction

This privacy policy explains what data the Elementic app processes and what that data is used for.

Elementic is designed to configure, test and control compatible controllers and home automation or installation components, for example via USB serial communication and/or MQTT. In the current test phase, the app is intended for internal and closed testing.

2. Summary

In the current test version, Elementic does not collect personal data for its own analytics, advertising or marketing purposes.

The app mainly processes technical configuration data that is necessary to communicate with connected devices. This may include device settings, names of inputs and outputs, MQTT settings and serial communication data.

Elementic does not sell user data and does not share personal data with advertisers.

3. What data does the app process?

Depending on how the app is used, Elementic may process the following data.

3.1 Device and configuration data

The app may process technical settings such as:

  • names of outputs, inputs or generic variables;
  • channel numbers, relay numbers, types, minimum and maximum values;
  • configuration of compatible controllers;
  • status information from a connected controller, such as boot status, network status, MQTT status, uptime or error status;
  • data sent by a connected controller via USB serial communication.

This data is required to display, configure and control the controller.

3.2 USB serial communication

When a compatible controller is connected via USB, the app may send and receive data through USB serial communication. This is only used to configure or read data from the connected controller.

The app does not use this communication to send personal data to Elementic.

3.3 MQTT data

If the user uses MQTT functionality, the app may process technical MQTT settings such as:

  • broker address or IP address;
  • port number;
  • topics;
  • username and password, if configured by the user;
  • values or commands published or received through MQTT.

This data is used to enable communication between the app, the MQTT broker and the connected devices.

Please note: if the user uses their own or an external MQTT broker, data may be processed through that broker. Elementic has no control over external MQTT brokers chosen by the user.

3.4 Local storage

The app may store settings locally on the device, for example to remember configuration data or connection settings.

Locally stored data remains on the device unless the user exports, shares, deletes it, or uses it through a configured external service.

4. What is the data used for?

The app uses data for the following purposes:

  • displaying connected controllers and their status;
  • configuring inputs and outputs;
  • sending and receiving serial commands;
  • sending and receiving MQTT messages;
  • storing app and device settings;
  • testing and improving the operation of Elementic during internal and closed tests.

5. What does Elementic not collect?

In the current test version:

  • Elementic does not create user accounts;
  • Elementic does not collect users' names, addresses or phone numbers;
  • Elementic does not use advertising networks;
  • Elementic does not sell data;
  • Elementic does not use data for tracking across third-party apps or websites;
  • Elementic does not process location data, unless this is explicitly added and disclosed in a future version.

6. Sharing of data

Elementic does not share personal data with third parties for advertising, marketing or sale.

Data may be technically transmitted to systems configured by the user, such as:

  • the user's own MQTT broker;
  • a controller or microcontroller connected via USB;
  • local network devices that the user intentionally connects to.

When the user uses an external MQTT broker or another external service, the privacy policy of that service may also apply.

7. User rights and choices

Users can:

  • uninstall the app to remove locally stored app data;
  • clear app data through Android settings;
  • change or delete entered MQTT or device settings;
  • deny USB access when Android asks for permission.

8. Security

Elementic aims to process data carefully. The app is designed to use technical configuration data only for the operation of the app and communication with devices and services chosen by the user.

If the user uses MQTT without encryption, data within the network may be readable by others on that network. Users should preferably use a trusted local network and, where possible, secure MQTT connections.

9. Children

Elementic is not specifically directed at children. The app is intended for users who configure technical installations, microcontrollers or home automation devices.

10. Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be updated when the app changes, for example when account functionality, cloud storage, analytics, in-app purchases or other features are added.

The latest version of this privacy policy will be made available through the website or through the app listing in Google Play.
